Aconite

GENERAL DESCRPTION:

Aconite produces clusters of bluish violet flowers that hang from the stem like monks’ cowls, giving the plant its common name, monkshood. Another common name is wolf’s-bane.

It is a beautiful yet poisonous plant that grows throughout the mountainous regions of Europe, Russia and central Asia.

It is widely cultivated as a garden plant. Highly toxic, aconite was the preferred poison used by the ancient Greeks.

Administered in very small doses, it produces mental and physical restlessness and tissue inflammation. For this reason, homeopathic physicians prescribe Aconite (Monkshood) for patients who seemed distressed or fearful and complain of thirst and unbearable aches and pains that accompany their illnesses.

To be used as a homeopathic remedy, the whole plant--except the root, which is the most poisonous part--is gathered while in full bloom and pounded to a pulp.

Juice is pressed from the pulp and mixed with alcohol, then it is diluted to nontoxic levels.
