Chamomile Essential Oil





Description:

Chamomile species have feathery leaves with tiny white or yellow-centered daisy-like flowers, with a faint earthy green scent in summer.

Only the perennial species have the sweet apple-scented foliage. The pale blue oil is extracted from the flower and blends well with rose, geranium and lavender.



Roman Chamomile oil has a sweet, dry, fruity scent and is pale blue, it turns pale yellow when exposed to light and air. Annual German Chamomile has a warm earthy aroma and is dark inky-blue, which slowly turns from a green to a yellow-brown with extended exposure to light.

Therapeutic effects:

Chamomile is prescribed by aroma therapists for anxiety and stress-related illnesses. Both Roman and German Chamomile oils have gentle, healing nature, suitable for children. It is especially useful for calming children who have difficulties during teething.

The flowers from both Chamomiles share similar aromatic healing compounds and yields a relaxing digestive tea useful after overeating.

It is also given to prevent nightmares and insomnia and it can suppress nausea, including morning sickness. Cooled Chamomile tea bags placed over tired eyes can reduce inflammation, puffiness, and fatigue shadows. Fair hair can be lightened by regular applications of Chamomile. Herbalists prescribe extracts to aid the internal healing of intestinal operations and some ulcers. Externally, Chamomile will speed wound healing and reduce swelling.

Uses:

Chamomile oil is used in body, bath and hair products and for its anti-allergenic properties. Use in diluted form when using for children.

Avoid Chamomile oil during pregnancy.

Use weak dilutions when giving to children.

Growth & Propagation:

Grow Chamomile in full sun and in light, well-drained soil.

Sow seed in the spring.

Pick leave any time, pick fully open flowers, dry, and store in airtight, light-proof container.
