Geranium Essential Oil

Description:
There are hundreds of different species of geraniums cultivated for their pretty flowers, but only the aromatic pelargonium give rich yields of the sweet yellowy-green essential oil.
This oil is distilled from the leaves, stalks and flowers. These flowers smell lemony when the leaves are pinched. Widely grown throughout Europe, they can grow around two feet in height.
Therapeutic effects:
Geranium is popular in massage for both its uplifting and relaxing effect. It is invaluable for treating nervous tension and depression. It is also used as an antiseptic, for treating stress, sluggish circulation, cellulite, broken capillaries, unbalanced skin sebum, and eczema.
Uses:
This plant has a cherishing fragrance and is probably the most pleasantly scented insect repellant. It is a popular ingredient in perfumes for its sweet, fresh, floral essence. You can buy Geranium flavored syrups, preserves and drinks.
Growth & Propagation:
Grow them in pots in well-drained potting soil. Keep in a sunny, warm, well-ventilated indoor position during the winter months and in a sheltered outdoor position in the summertime. Sow seed in early spring or take tip cuttings, about 3 inches, in late summer or spring from winter plants.
Pinch off the growing tips when the plant reaches 6 inches. Feed the plant every 10 days in the summer.
