Peppermint Essential Oil





Description:

The leaves of the peppermint plant are shorter and broader than spearmint leaves with larger spikes of purple flowers.

Its oil is distilled from the whole of the partially dried plant that is almost colorless. Mint is seldom combined with other herbs because of its strong refreshing fragrance and dominant character.






Therapeutic effects:

It is excellent for digestion, as a decongestant, and for skin disorders. It is used for colds, flu, flatulence, headaches, indigestion, nausea, sunburn and toothache.

The scent that is releases from sprigs in baths or inhalation eases nasal congest ion and is invigorating.

Uses:

A few drops of this oil on a handkerchief can alleviate headaches and symptoms of sea and car sickness because it is refreshing and invigorating. It makes an effective bath oil or skin tonic in the summer time because of its cooling properties.

Used in a footbath it can help rejuvenate sweaty, tired feet.

Caution:

All mint oils will cancel out the effect of homoeopathic medicines.

Avoid this oil the first trimester of pregnancy.

Do not use in a concentration of more than 1 per cent for skin problems because it can possibly cause irritation.
