Common Cold

The common cold is the most frequent infection in all age groups in the United States. If left to take its course, it should clear up in a week or so.

A cold is usually the sign of your body attempting to cleanse itself from toxins, waste and bacterial overgrowth that have built up to the point where natural immunity cannot handle or overcome them.

Natural remedies are effective in helping to speed recovery and reducing discomfort.

Cold symptoms may include:

* sore throat

* head and nasal congestion

* chest infection and cough

* fever

* general aches and pains

* watery eyes

* nasal discomfort with watery discharge

* sneezing

* fatigue

Colds are caused by a variety of rhinoviruses. Once a person has been affected, he or she usually develops an immune defense to it, however, the average adult is exposed to one or two new viruses every year.

Exposure to new strains and a general lack of immune resistance is what sets the stage for a cold. Stress can also make a person more susceptible to colds.

Medical science has not yet found a cure for the common cold because the rhinovirus adapts itself so well to the human body. When the virus has attacked itself to the immune cells that are attached to the lining of the respiratory tract, the body creates more cells, this gives the virus a place to grow.

Eventually, the body will defeat the virus by sloughing off all the virus cells mixed in with the nasal discharge associated with the cold. The glands are always affected by a cold. The endocrine system is on a 6 day-cycle, a normal cold usually runs for about a week as the body runs through the detoxification processes.
