Home remedies for the common cold ( also known as Naturopathy) can include:
* Taking Vitamin C in large doses (2,000 to 3,000 mg daily) to ease cold symptoms and duration.
* Going on a liquid diet during the acute stage with green and potassium drinks. These will help to clean out infection and mucus. Chicken soup also increases mucous release.
* Avoid dairy products of all kinds as they will increase the forming of mucous. Also avoid red meats, sugars and fried and fatty foods.
* Eating hot and spicy foods will help your body fight a cold.
* Drink a minimum of eight to ten glasses of liquids a day to avoid dehydration. This will also help keep mucous membranes moist and loosen phlegm.
* Wash your hands often when you have a cold because the cold virus can survive for
several hours on hands, tissues, and hard surfaces.
SPECIAL NOTE:
If you decide to use an over-the-counter antihistamine, be aware that it can temporarily
make breathing easier and will clear the nose by drying it, but it will make the nasal
mucus thicker and harder to drain.
These are but a few of the home remedies for the common cold that you can try.
