Homeopathy

What is Homeopathy?
It is a safe, gentle, yet effective natural form of treatment that aims to help the body heal itself. It is a form of medicine, holistic in nature, which means that in determining treatment the whole body is considered as well as the specific illness or problem.
The medicines, or remedies used in this therapy stimulate the body’s ability to heal with minute doses, which have been taken from plants, animals, or minerals. These remedies or substances are recognized and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Homeopathic remedies are manufactured by established pharmaceutical companies under strict guidelines.
The name comes from the Greek word “homios” meaning “like” or “similar” and “pathos or patheia” meaning suffering. The word means “similar suffering” or simply means treating like for like.
What does this mean? This means that a substance that cause symptoms of an illness in a healthy or well person can also be used to cure similar symptoms when they result from illness.
If we think of health as a state of ease, both mentally and physically, then we think of illness as a state of “disease.” This therapy works with the idea that we all the ability
to overcome “dis-ease.” The energy, or vitality, that we all have within us gives us the ability to grow, repair damaged tissue, respond to stresses in our environment, and generally function with a sense of well-being.
When something happens to us that causes us to feel ill, we start to produce symptoms: these are the expression of our “disease.”
By giving the appropriate remedy, this natural healing energy is stimulated and the body can once again restore itself of the symptoms that limited its normal or true function.
The minute substances used in this natural therapy are called homeopathic remedies.
Homeopathic remedies allow the body to heal itself, without any of the harmful side effects that can come from conventional drugs.
There are over 3000 homeopathic remedies, which are usually referred to by their abbreviated names.
The practice dates back to the end of the eighteenth century.
A German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, first publishes his theories 200 years ago. However, the natural principles of homeopathic thinking were identified as far bask as Hippocrates, the 15 century B.C.E., and were used by the ancient Egyptians.
