Ipecacuanha, a perennial plant, native to Brazil grows in the tropical rainforests of Central
and South America. It is recognized for its ability to induce vomiting. Ipecac is used
primarily for nausea and abdominal pains.
This homeopathic remedy is made from the most potent part of the plant, the root.
The
root is dried and then ground into a coarse powder which is then diluted either in milk
sugar as a dry substance or in a water-alcohol base. Both of the preparations are weakened to a nontoxic level.
