The Musculoskeletal System

The musculoskeletal system which includes the skeleton, muscles, the connective tissue and our joints hold us together, enabling us to stand, move, and give us our form.

This system of the body of the body which in the body’s frame work is responsible for most aches and pains, as well as stiffness and restricted mobility.

These aches and pains may be caused by injuries to bones, strains and cramps in muscles and general wear and tear on joints. The health of our musculoskeletal system depends not only on the use to which is put on the structure they are part of, but can also be affected greatly by internal ill-health. When the framework of our body becomes dysfunctional, it can alter the health of internal organs and the whole body system.

Only as long as the inner environment and metabolism of our body are in harmony is health and wholeness maintained. If our bio-chemical and metabolic processes are out of tune, one of the effects can be an increased strain on the body to remove waste and toxins.

If the build up of waste and toxins has been going on for some years unnoticed, (which it usually does) these toxins can build up in the connective tissue of the joints and sow the seeds for the development of rheumatism and arthritis. A genetic disposition can increase this possibility.

Of all the problems that can affect the musculoskeletal system, it is this area of chronic and degenerative ailments of the bones and joints that herbal medicine has the most to offer.
