We are always looking for natural cures for laryngitis, but first let's discuss "what is laryngitis"?

It is an acute inflammation of the larynx and vocal cords that can lead to a loss of voice. It can lead to a sore throat and hoarseness and the voice may sound weak, breathy, scratchy, or husky.



Laryngitis usually follows a cold or flu, sinusitis, or upper respiratory tract infection, but can also be caused by allergies or asthma.

Specifically, this ailment is an inflammation of the mucus membranes of the larynx, or the part of the windpipe that contains the vocal cords. It can be caused due to overstraining the voice by shouting, severe coughing or irritations such as smoke, excessive alcohol, stomach acid or workplace chemicals.

Acute laryngitis in most cases are temporary and improve after the underlying cause gets better. Most cases of are caused by something minor and last less than a few weeks.

Symptoms of laryngitis:

* hoarseness and loss of voice.

* pain when speaking.

* tickling and rawness in the throat.

* a constant need to clear the throat.

* loss of voice accompanied by the flu, a cold, or pneumonia.

* fever (occasionally).

Chronic laryngitis last more than three weeks and this type of laryngitis is generally caused by irritants over time. It can cause vocal cord strain, injuries, polyps or nodules.

These injuries can be caused by:

* Chronic sinusitis

* Excessive alcohol use

* Habitual overuse of the voice

* Smoking

* Inhales irritants, such as chemical fumes

* Acid reflux
