Natural flu remedies are becoming increasingly popular.
Influenza, commonly shortened to “flu,” are infections that are longer-lasting and stronger than colds. Different viral strains produce different symptoms, but generally there is a fever, headache, aching muscles and weakness. Influenza appears most frequently in winter and early spring.
Although both colds and influenza come from viruses that infect the upper respiratory tract, the symptoms of influenza are more pronounced and its complications can be more severe. Influenza most commonly occurs in school-age children, but its most severe effects are felt by infants, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
Despite all the advances made in the prevention and treatment of influenza it is still fatal to about 20,000 people in the U.S. annually because of the complication that come along with the flu.
The flu is rarely dangerous in healthy adults sixty years of age or younger, but it does make a person more susceptible to pneumonia, ear infections, and sinus problems.
Symptoms of the flu:
* fever that is usually between 101*F and 102*F, but occasionally as high as 106*F,
sometimes alternating with chills.
* sore throat
* dry, hacking cough
* aching muscles
* general fatigue and weakness
* nasal congestion, sneezing
* headache
Treatment:
Influenza will run its course regardless of how you treat it, but because it is a viral
disease, it does not respond to antibiotics. If you are in good health, after a week or so of bed rest and self-care at home, influenza will probably pass with no complications.
Natural flu remedies may help to strengthen your body’s ability to fight the virus and recover from illness as well as temporary ease flu symptoms.
