Nux vomica, also know as poison nut, is prepared from the seeds of an evergreen tree which is native to Australia, India, Thailand and China. The seeds have a bitter, unpleasant taste that contain strychnine.
Small doses of the seed stimulate the appetite, while larger doses decrease the appetite and can cause motor dysfunction.
To prepare the homeopathic remedy the poison nuts are ground to a powder and then diluted with milk sugar to the desired potency.
Nux vomica is prescribed by homeopaths for ailments that occur in overindulgence in food, coffee, or alcohol that is usually accompanied by irritability. It is also used to treat colds and fevers.
TARGET AILMENTS
* Headache - Migraine headaches with painful vomiting and headaches from
hangover. It is also good for headaches with dizziness.
* Common cold - Good for colds with violent sneezing. Stuffed up feeling,
stuffed up at night and when out of doors. Profuse discharge
during the day.
* Sore throat - Tickling feeling after waking in the morning. Sensation of
roughness, tightness in the throat and a rough, scraped feeling.
* Cough - Cough causes a bursting headache and shallow breathing.
* Fever - Fever with extreme chills and gets worse with the slightest movement.
* Digestive disorders - Nausea and sour vomiting from a rich meal or overeating,
when the food remains indigested like a load in the stomach.
The feeling that if you could only vomit, you would feel
better. Weight and pain in stomach and very sensitive to
pressure.
* Constipation/diarrhea - Constipation resulting from physical inactivity. An
urge to pass a stool, but with no results. Pains in
rectum after a meal. Diarrhea is dark in the morning
or immediately after a meal.
