This species of conifer grows wild all over Europe and North American. The pine tree needles release their resinous scent when sprinkled on fires or pressed in pillows. The trees have a wonderful fragrance. Whenever I smell it I think of the Holiday Season.
Growing up in the wilds of West Virginia, we would go out and cut down this tree to decorate for Christmas. We would also use the branches of the trees to make wreathes and to just place around the house for the fragrance.
It is excellent to use in vaporizers to treat and to prevent coughs, colds, and chest infections. It also acts as an antiseptic, and is valuable for treating respiratory tract, for bronchitis and sinusitis. It also helps relieve cystitis, arthritis and muscular aches and pains.
Uses:
Scots oil is distilled from the dry needles of the tree to yield a balsam-turpentine scent with a clearing and energizing effect. The tree's oil is added to masculine fragrances, bath products, detergents, and floor cleaning products for its clean, refreshing antiseptic scent.
Caution:Use the essential oil in low dilutions only
