Spongia Tosta

Euspongia officinalis

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND INFORMATION:

Spongia Tosta (a.k.a. common sponge) are animals but they do not have the ability to move themselves at all. The only movement that is apparent is its ability to pump water through the canals that it has in its body.

The walls of the hundreds or thousands of canals absorbs nourishment as matter passes through the sponge. The walls of the canals in their bodies are constructed from cells that have tiny feathery whip-like bulges that propel the water through the sponge.

Spongia Tosta are gathered from the waters of the Mediterranean, near Syria and Greece. The sponge is carefully cleaned of sand, then they are toasted in a metal drum before being powdered and triturated.

Spongia is an excellent remedy for croup.

REMEDY PROFILE:

Spongia people are not mornings people. They wake up fearful and anxious and can often be grumpy and depressed. They fear death and are convinced that they may die from heart related disease and have the fear of suffocation. They wake up at night with great fear and in the state of anxiety.

TARGET AILMENTS:

* Cough - A dry, constant barking like cough. Burning in the chest and throat upon awaking, cough disturbs sleep. Sense of burning or sore pain in chest. Cough is worse in a warm room.

* Croup - A dry cough that is painful and rasping. A tickling feeling low down in the chest and a feeling that there is something blocking the larynx. There is acute anxiety with the cough and when waking in the night there is a feeling of suffocation. Spongia is given if Aconite fails to work.

* Laryngitis - Larynx is inflamed, dry, burning, constricted and painful. Hurts worse when talking or swallowing. Can have difficulty breathing and hurts more when turning the head.

PREPARATION:

This herb is available in various potencies, in both tablet and liquid form at health food stores. Follow the directions on the label.

None expected as long as remedy is used as label on container.
