Wild Bergamot






LATIN NAME:

Monarda fistulose

Wild Bergamot is also known as Eastern Bee balm, Balm, Horsemint, and Oswego-tea.



GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND INFORMATION:

This herb is a perennial plant and there are twelve species of the Monarda genus.It has lavender flowers and a very strong fragrance.

It is a good herb for tea and to season meat and is also very high in vitamin A and C and can be eaten in salads.

TARGET AILMENTS:

Take internally for:

* migraines associated with tension, neuralgia, insomnia, and anxiety induced palpitations.

* colds

* bacteria, fungus, intestinal worms

* relief of spasms in the digestive track

* mild depression and anxiety

* lowering blood pressure

* feverish conditions such as influenza

Use externally for:

* skin lesions of Herpes simplex

* burns

* warts

PREPARATIONS AND DOSAGE:

This herb is available as tincture, dried leaved, and salve in health food stores.

Infusion: Pour one cup of boiling water over 2-3 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb (can use 4-6 fresh leaves) and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Keep tea cover until ready to use. Drink a cup of tea in the morning and in the evening or when needed.

Tincture: Take ½ teaspoon of the tincture three times a day.

Parts used: Fresh leaves and dried leaves.

Actions: Anti-spasmodic, anti-depressive, anti-microbial, carminative, diaphoretic, hepatic, nervine
