The Daily News is a New York City-based tabloid that provides local, national and international news. Its focus is on city and state politics and government, but the paper also publishes opinion pieces and editorials. Its website features the latest news, photos and videos.

Its website also provides a number of tools for visitors, including an archive of past articles, a directory of city government officials and a section where citizens can submit information about problems in their neighborhood.

In addition to its regular print edition, the Daily News has several special issues each year. These include the Yale-Harvard Game Day Issue, the Commencement Issue and the First Year Issue. The News is the oldest college daily newspaper in the United States and is financially and editorially independent. Many of its alumni have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public service, including William F. Buckley, John Hersey, Lan Samantha Chang and Strobe Talbott.

The News has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Commentary in 1996 for E.R. Shipp’s pieces on racial and welfare issues and in 1998 for Mike McAlary’s coverage of the police beating of Haitian immigrant Abner Louima. In the late 1990s, under the editors-in-chief of Pete Hamill and Debby Krenek, the Daily News developed a reputation for protecting freedom of speech and the rights of minorities in New York City.

As of 2022, the Daily News has a circulation of about 2 million copies per day. Circulation data through 2014 comes from Editor & Publisher and the trade group formerly known as the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), which now operates as the News Media Alliance. Circulation figures from 2015 onward come from the Center’s analysis of the financial statements of publicly traded newspaper companies.

Each daily news article includes comprehension and critical thinking questions, found below the article, that help students deepen their understanding of the story. The questions are based on the Common Core State Standards and are written by professional educators. In addition, each news story includes background and resource information to support student inquiry and extension.

Each news story includes links to articles, blogs, podcasts and video clips, allowing students to access additional information and engage with the topic in more depth. This allows them to make more informed decisions and create connections between the news story and their personal lives. Additionally, the News also features an interactive map of major events and a timeline for historical context. This interactive feature helps students understand important historical events and their impact on society. The map is a great tool for teaching civics and social studies. It can be used by students, parents and teachers alike to learn about historical events and their significance to our daily lives.
